7 Quick Takes | The "I've Been Playing Hooky" Edition

1) Looky looky, I'm playing hooky!

{Blush}

Yes, I have been absent from here for a while (about 2 weeks) for a combination of reasons - Thanksgiving, other social media commitments, Thanksgiving, kid-related stuff, Thanksgiving, the usual angst that bubbles up when I stop writing, Thanksgiving.  You're bright folks; I think you get the gist.

Also, it's interesting (enough to warrant a whole separate blog post) about how a personal blog evolves.  I've been writing this one for just over 3 years (yes, that long, and it's still fairly unorganized!) and what I need/want to write about is ever-shifting.  Do you find the same thing happening as you evolve, blog-wise?

{Making mental note to chew on this and write more about it later.}

2) I'm stalled in the gray valley of uncertainty.

Without divulging too much (because this blog is widely read daily by 6 people), I've been noodling over an IRL situation that needs to be addressed, one that's in the early stages of being acted upon.

I've been thinking a lot about how adjusting the reality we live to the reality we imagined, hoped, and worked for is probably the hardest thing we do as parents.

I'm not trying to be deliberately cryptic - well, ok, I am.  But just because we're still in a figuring things out kind of place.  And before I skip onward, let me offer a few words of reassurance to you half-dozen souls trying to puzzle through those words without worry: we're all fundamentally happy, healthy, and hale here at Casa de Thomas.

I promise

3) Thanksgiving was great but I'm glad it's over.

It was wonderful to see everyone and peeps, believe me when I tell you that I do get  how blessed I am to be able to host the big T-Day dinner every year.  I get that.

But it's a LOT of work for one meal, peeps.

That is all.  ;-)

4)  Because we all need a little side gig this time of year.

One of the other reasons (among the multitude) of why this blogjoint has been a ghost town is a freelance gig I've been working on; you can read about it here (seriously, peeps, I had to laugh out loud when I read the words "professional blogger") and you can check it out right here

If you're local to Dayton or SW Ohio (and even if you're not), I hope you'll consider liking us.

5) My mom's job is writing a book.

Oh, if only it were so, kiddos, but your constant demands of dinner, clean underwear, and transportation to school, sports, and roller skating parties are really cutting into my writing time.  Or maybe I'm just making excuses by hiding my word-loving light behind three blue-eyed cuties of mine.  Either way, I really enjoyed this post by Rachelle Gardner, especially the line about what Tom Wolfe's kids used to say about their father.

If you slip into the compare & despair trap as a writer, go hop over and read that post.  It's a good reminder to keep your perspective in check.

6) My Wednesday evening was ethereal.

Tatiana sang at our little church; I took Becky and we sat in the front row.  It was like being on a cloud of music.

If you're not familiar with Tatiana and why she is so remarkable, read more about her story here then go here and listen for a bit.  Absolutely beautiful.

7) The best part of hosting Thanksgiving is the leftovers.

Especially the leftover heavy whipping cream - oh, yum!
