Excuse Me While I Feel Big In My Britches

Although my attempts at NaNoTwitMo have faltered this month - understandably - I'm happy to say my Twitter addiction has proven to be a profitable one.

I just had a paid freelance piece published here; I stumbled across the opportunity to query the piece to Gina, a fellow twitterbug who is one of the savviest social networking, content-pimping writing mamas with whom I've ever traded funny tweets.

Thanks, Gina. In the wise words of the original Swedish hair band, ABBA, you took a chance on me baby. Much appreciated.

And, because it would do no good for me to be puffed up here like Foghorn Leghorn, full of myself and myself alone, I'm happy to share with all of you fine writing mommyfolk my very first...

GIVEAWAY!

Can I get a WOOT!

Here's what I've got for you word-lovers...

Erica at Oxford University Press has graciously offered me a copy of the Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus to review here along with another brand-spanking new copy for one of you fine readers.

It's a hefty book, although nothing like the huge Oxford English Dictionary that takes up shelves and shelves at your alma mater's library, but a nice chunky reference book that I'm sure will look grand on your bookshelf.

I'll be reviewing it here on Tuesday, November 18, with a giveaway contest for everyone. Rules will be in the post {meaning, I need to go read about how to host a giveaway; advice welcome!}.

Thanks, Erica, for the chance to share some good stuff with my readers.

And, the OED? Like, totally my fave reference book(s) when I was an English major at Maryland. In one of my 400 level classes, I referred to it as that Big Ole Dictionary. My prof, a New England Yankee, misunderstood my pseudo-southern accent and cracked up laughing.

I honestly have never once referred to it as the The Big Ass Dictionary.

But it is a fine nickname for that hefty tome!

Thanks for reading! Have a great weekend!
