Summer changes once you have children.
Notice I use the plural there.
I thought I learned my lesson after last summer, namely, to enter the summer season with a high level of patience coupled with a low level of expectations as to what I can get done day-to-day.
I'm still struggling to find vast reservoirs of patience within myself, especially after days like this one.
And it's still hard to come to terms with the fact that having three children under my solo watch from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm means in reality that my personal goals (like writing, cleaning up my desk, showering daily) must take a backseat to more important tasks such as Sandbox Shake-Off, Sunscreen Slathering, Canine Wrangling, and Sibling Negotiating.
Oh, and let's not forget this one: Strategic Division of Blue Popsicles.
Writing, other than tippity-tapping here at this wee little blogjoint of mine, did not happen much this week. Time was in short supply (but tantrums weren't) and I spent far too much time worrying about something over which I have no control: whether or not the cholesteatoma in Princess Pinky's ear has regrown since her second surgery in March.
She had another follow-up appointment with her surgeon last Tuesday. Her new eardrum looks peachy-keen (my words, not his) and he ordered a follow-up CT to see what, if anything, might be going on inside her ear. I drove her down to Cincy Children's for the scan on Monday morning; now all we can do is wait and pray.
Waiting and praying is good advice for just about anything, even writing (although the writing beast would argue otherwise).

I hope your efforts to keep chipping away at your writing dream, one word at a time, were a bit more productive than mine.
Share, if you wish, with a comment below; no Mr. Linky this week. A lonely linky box is such a sad sight for bloggy eyes. Many thanks to fellow writer-mommy Jane who linked this post last week.
Keep at it, writer-mommies!
