Three Days of Summer

Summer - as in, no more school to occupy my two older children's time with something more positive than tormenting their siblings - officially started here on Wednesday.

Recapping the first three days:

  • Bad storms blew through our part of the Midwest on Tuesday night, setting off our town's tornado sirens twice and keeping us all in the basement until midnight. Despite the late night, the weefolk awoke at the crack of dawn and spent the day crankily griping at me and each other.
  • Princess Pinky smacked her brother Prince Tatertot twice in one day; when asked why, she replied with the standard, "HE started it!" This, of course, was followed with tears and wailing by her; she knew she'd done wrong.
  • Sir Chatsalot (the toddler formerly known as Sir Screamsalot) proved that the $75 extra we spent on ScotchGuarding our sectional sofa was money well-spent. I discovered red marker all over the sofa at 8:30 on Thursday morning; after a fine moment of mommying by me(and by fine, I mean screechy), the marker came out with just water.

So yesterday I picked up two of their friends (both siblings the same ages as Princess Pinky and Prince Tatertot) and let them hang out here for the day.

It worked - they all played nicely together and enjoyed the change of pace.

When I called their mom (my IRL friend and Brownie Girl Scout co-leader) and told them I'd have them home after taking all five kids with me to Kroger, her words:

Are you insane?

Not yet - but I still have many, many hot days of summer to weather with my weefolk.

Thank goodness we belong to this Y and have such great pools both inside and outside to enjoy year-round.

Exhuastion-by-pool-fun is my sure fire way to survive the the loooong days of summer.
