For the Dads

Happy Father's Day.

I'm blessed doubly this day; I get to watch my children with their father and be reminded once again just how deeply I love this goofball.

And I get to share dinner with my father, too. Dad, I love you so much and just want to say thanks for always:

*Taking care of our family

*Teaching me about the importance of volunteering and service by your own example

*Valuing my opinion, even if differs from your own

*Showing pride in my writing from the very first poem I pecked out on the old Underwood when I was five all the way to the present day

*Buying me Baskin-Robbins and gum and Cheetos and all sorts of junky and fun kid stuff

*Giving me the tools to manage my own money when I was in high school

*Loving Mom, and by doing so, teaching me to never settle for just good enough in matters of the heart

Thanks, Dad.

While I do feel blessed today, I cannot fill the hole in our family where my FIL should be. My dear Knute's dad passed away in January of 1999 and not a day has gone by where he hasn't been missed. He was a great father, and the proof of this lies in lives of his three children. They, my dear Knute, Uncle Meatball, and Aunt Ta, are all amazing people who do much for others.

We miss you, Grampa Don, and know that we will see you again.

I hope this find you blessed today, dear mommyfolk, blessed by the fathers in your life.

  2. I'm thinking so much recently about how a big part of being a good father is being a good husband. You just have to treat the mother of your kids well, and I'm glad your dad does that!
